Marriage is the oldest institution on the face of the earth. God himself was the first minister and the heavenly angels were the witnesses. This set the pattern for all mankind. The explanation is given in Genesis 2:24, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”

When Jesus walked the earth the marriage union was under attack. Jesus reiterated God’s original plan for marriage and then he added these words, “Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate” (Matthew 19:6).
