Sunday, February 28 – Lake Murray Church – 10:30 am

Poor Charlie Brown. Every year he falls under the spell of Lucy who promises to hold the football for him so he can kick a field goal. Charlie Brown knows full well, based on years of experience, that at a dead run, just as he thrusts his foot at the ball, she will yank it out of the way. Charlie Brown will then go flying into the air only to land flat on his back with a thud.

However, this time will be different. Lucy has promised NOT to yank the ball away this time. Somehow, Charlie Brown musters the confidence to trust the goodness of human nature as he gives Lucy another chance to prove herself. So, taking her at his word, with full confidence in the goodness of human nature, he runs full-tilt to the ball. As he risks it all in one heroic kick, Lucy yanks the ball out from the flying foot of Charlie Brown. He flies through the air and lands flat on his back: “Wump!” Lucy offers her comfort to him as she stands over his crumpled body: “Charlie Brown, your faith in human nature is an inspiration to all young people.” Poor Charlie Brown.

We believers have a human nature that can be fickle. We have a Lucy inside of us that betrays a naïve Charlie Brown-like trust. “I just know I will do better next time,” we promise ourselves. Suddenly, we lose our footing and go flying through the air and land flat on our backs: “Wump!” Poor human beings. How can we win this battle within us?

Come this Sunday and learn how to win the battle within.
